Running a Perception Audit

Learn how to run audits across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Grok.

What is a Perception Audit?

A perception audit asks AI systems questions about your brand and analyzes their responses. VectorGap queries providers with prompts like: - "What is [Brand]?" - "Is [Brand] a good choice for [use case]?" - "Compare [Brand] to alternatives" - "What are the pros and cons of [Brand]?" We then score each response on six metrics and aggregate them into your Brand Perception Index (BPI).

Choosing Audit Depth

**Quick Audit (5 queries)** Best for: Quick health check, limited audit credits Covers: Basic discovery, trust, and recommendation queries **Standard Audit (12 queries)** Best for: Regular monitoring, weekly/monthly cadence Covers: All categories with moderate depth **Comprehensive Audit (20+ queries)** Best for: Quarterly deep dives, competitive analysis Covers: Extended queries including edge cases and negative scenarios

Selecting Providers

Each AI provider has different training data and biases: **ChatGPT (OpenAI)** - Largest user base (400M+ weekly users) - Strong on general knowledge - Training cutoff affects recent brand changes **Claude (Anthropic)** - Growing enterprise adoption - Strong on nuanced analysis - Often more cautious in recommendations **Gemini (Google)** - Direct integration with Google Search - Most up-to-date information - Strong local/maps integration **Perplexity** - Real-time web search - Always cites sources - Growing rapidly in B2B research **Grok (xAI)** - Real-time X/Twitter integration - Less filtered responses - Growing tech-savvy user base For comprehensive coverage, audit all providers your customers might use.

Audit Scheduling

Set up recurring audits to track perception changes: **Recommended cadences:** - Weekly: For brands with frequent content updates - Bi-weekly: Standard for most brands - Monthly: For stable brands with infrequent changes Audits run automatically at your chosen time. Results appear in your Intelligence Hub and can trigger alerts if scores change significantly.
